Iceland - Discovering The Land Of Fire

  • Trans Atlantis Tours - Iceland - Discovering The Land Of Fire - September 10, 2025 - 9 Days

Day 1

Arrival in REYKJAVIK: welcome at Keflavik international airport by your English-speaking tour guide. Transfer to your hotel. Free dinner (optional) and overnight at Fosshotel Lind or similar.

Day 2

Day 2 to THINGVELLIR - SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA (approx. 260 km)
Breakfast at hotel. Start your tour with Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical, cultural and geological importance. If we're talking geology: the place has a series of fissures in the earth's crust caused by the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates moving apart. This creates some marvellous stone structures. The most important of these is Almannagja. It resembles a canyon, where you can admire the Oxarafoss waterfall. Some of the faults are filled with transparent water. In the best-known, Silfra, you can even dive. Talking of history: this is where the Icelandic parliament was established in 930. It remained here until 1798. Lunch at leisure (optional).

Continuation to the Snæfellsnes peninsula via Borgarnes. Stop at the famous Berskerkjahraun lava fields, over 4,000 years old and the inspiration for many of the region's Icelandic Sagas! This vast expanse of lava is proof of Iceland's volcanic power, both destructive and creative.

As an option, visit the unique Shark Museum, where you can learn all there is to know about sharks and the fermentation process that produces the famous Hakarl, which Icelanders love! You can also add to your Hakarl tasting the brennivín, Iceland's famous brandy, which is ideal for swallowing after trying the fermented shark!
Weather permitting, you can go hunting for the northern lights on foot with your guide in the vicinity of the hotel, ideally located away from light pollution.

Day 3

Day 3 to SNÆFELLSNES - BORGARNES (approx. 240 km)
Breakfast at the hotel, then off to discover a breathtaking region. Passing through Grundarfjörður, we continue to the emblematic Kirkjufell mountain, where we take time to climb up to the waterfalls, offering an excellent panorama of this "church" shaped mountain sculpted by glaciers.

Continuing along the jagged coastline, with its imaginative shapes. Stop at the famous Djúpalónssandur beach.

Free lunch (optional).
Continue to the nearby village of Arnarstapi and its impressive cliffs.

Weather permitting, you'll set off to hunt for the northern lights on foot with your tour guide in the vicinity of the hotel.

Dinner and overnight at Hotel Borgarnes or similar.

Day 4

Day 4 to BORGARNES - GOLDEN CIRCLE - REYKJAVIK (approx. 270 km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the discovery of the Golden Circle. We'll start with the Geysir and Strokkur geysers to admire one of Iceland's most famous natural sites. Its name comes from the Great Geysir, one of the world's most powerful geysers.

Free lunch (optional).
Continue to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall. The "golden falls" owe their name to the golden rainbow that forms above the gorge when the weather is clear. While Gullfoss is not Iceland's highest waterfall, it is undoubtedly one of the most impressive.

Optional: Visit Friðheimar and its geothermal tomato greenhouse, where you'll discover how to grow tomatoes and cucumbers with the power coming from Iceland's subsoil. You can also take a dip in the Secret Lagoon, a naturally warm pool hidden in the nearby Icelandic countryside. The water is a pleasant 36-40°C all year round. Admission to the Secret Lagoon and the loan of a towel are included. So don't forget your swimsuit!

Free dinner (optional) and overnight at Fosshotel Lind or similar.
